Clerical Error Leads To Loss Of Grant For Fredrick Police
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick city police say they've lost an $875,000 federal grant because of a clerical error on their application for the funds.
The Frederick News-Post reported Tuesday that the U.S. Justice Department awarded the grant in September but withdrew it last month. It would have helped pay for seven new police officers.
Acting Chief Patrick Grossman says his department was still waiting to receive the funds when the error was found.
He says the original application accidentally inflated the number of calls to police for firearms discharges and assaults involving firearms.
Grossman blames the error on a mistaken reading of statistical information.
