Camden Yards To Get Off-Season Facelift

BALTIMORE - Getting fans to turn off their high-def TVs and get back to the ballpark is the goal as the Orioles begin making major renovations.  Weijia Jiang has more on the plans and even more changes being considered.

Baseball might be over for now but the changes are just getting underway and designers say you won't feel a major change but you will feel more comfortable.

It's not that there's a problem with the seats in Orioles Park at Camden Yards.

"I always like when I go to a ballgame vs. a football game because you can actually spread out some, not as crunched," said fan John Evans.

It's just that there is a problem filling them.

"Not only the product you have on the field but you want to be comfortable when you go to the ballpark.  Who wants to go there and be uncomfortable?" said fan David Cossentino.

Crews are working on $1.5 million in renovations.  They're going to widen seats by four inches and tear down antiquated corporate skyboxes.

Many say they're looking forward to sitting in these new seats.

The stadium had already set money aside for this project.

"Maybe give us a fresh new outlook and get behind them like we should," Evans said.

The city's Department of Public Works has to give a final stamp of approval but folks at Camden Yards are not anticipating any problems.

Opening Day is still several months away.
