Cambridge Votes For Speed Cameras In School Zones
CAMBRIDGE, Md. (AP) -- City commissioners in Cambridge have voted for speed cameras in school zones.
The commissioners voted 4-1 this week in favor of a speed-camera ordinance.
Police Chief Ken Malik says the cameras will help the police force, which is spread thin.
The city will vote Monday on the approval of a service agreement with a contractor for the system.
Two trailer-based cameras will be placed within a half-mile of two schools. The contractor will move the trailers at the direction of city police. The cameras will be in use from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday in school zones, and tickets will be issued to anyone going 12 miles per hour above the posted speed limit in the school zone.
