BLOG: Nice Saturday

That upper-level disturbance has moved away to the north and east, and as of early this morning, a weak zone of high pressure has built across central Pennsylvania as weak low pressure has moved to eastern New England. That spells typical summertime weather today for outdoor activity. In general we will be partly sunny with only moderate/typical summertime humidity and temperatures several degrees above average. With weak high pressure at the surface and weak short-wave ridging in the upper levels, we don't expect any triggering mechanism for any widespread shower or thunderstorm activity this afternoon or this evening, but with the warmth of the day, perhaps an isolated shower or thunderstorm builds up and affects a small fraction of the viewing area.....the chance of this happening is less than 20 percent.

As we head in to tonight, it will be a typical summertime night with no precipitation. However, as we look back to the west, there is yet another front approaching from the west that will have a deepening upper-level trough. This trough will deliver more refreshing air in Monday and Tuesday, but before that happens, it looks like we will have to pay the price with thunderstorms increasing from west to east tomorrow, mainly in the afternoon, and continuing into early tomorrow night. With the wind energy and moisture associated with this surface front and strengthening upper-level trough, there will be the potential for strong winds and hail with these storms to go along with the threat for downpours and localized poor drainage/street flooding.

Thankfully, this front will sweep off to the east by Monday morning and we get into a much more comfortable, less humid air mass with dry weather that lasts through Wednesday. Very "sleepable" nights and "un-sweatable" days Monday and Tuesday, though as the high pressure that builds in behind this front slides off to the east Wednesday we will start to see those temperatures and dewpoints rise Wednesday into Thursday and the next front coming in Thursday could produce some shower and thunderstorm activity.
