BLOG: Lowdown On The Snow
Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at 4 p.m. and will continue through 6 a.m. Wednesday.
There are some flurries and snow showers out there today, but the real snow will get underway late this afternoon/this evening. Then, we will get a few hours of moderate snow that will last through the early morning hours. This storm will be out of here tomorrow, but the wind and cold will stick around.
The snow that we are going to get is coming from two different storms that will eventually merge into one bigger storm off the coast of New Jersey. Last year we were underneath those storm mergers, and that's why we got so much snow. This time, we are just in the path of these storms coming together...so we will get some accumulating snow, but not the same amounts that will be happening in New Jersey and New England. For us, this is what we are thinking accumulation-wise:
3-5" Baltimore metro region
5"+ for Cecil County & northern Delaware...plus, in the mountains of Garrett and Allegany Counties
1-3" west and southwest of Baltimore...including D.C.
(you can also see this in the picture attached.)
Gusty northwest winds will keep the cold air around for the next few days. Expect highs in the mid 30s tomorrow, then only around 30 degrees Thursday and Friday. This bitter cold will start to ease this weekend as highs creep back up to near 40 degrees on Sunday. Even though that is warmer than it's been in some time, it's still below average. Our average high is 41 degrees currently.
