St. Patrick's Day is not just about wearing green and chugging beer. It's a time to celebrate the rich heritage of Irish culture. Here are some of the ways you can do just that this St. Patrick's Day.

Shamrock 5K

The Shamrock 5K race begins Sunday, March 13 at 1:15 p.m. at Charles and Franklin Streets. Registration was limited to the first 4,500 entrants and has since closed. However, volunteers are needed. Proceeds help defray the cost of the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

The St. Patrick's Day Parade starts Sunday, March 13, 2 p.m. at the Washington Monument and continues to Pratt Street and Market Place. The lineup includes pipe bands, floats and local politicians.

Portraits of Ireland

Portraits of Ireland is a professional performing arts production, featuring the Teelin Irish Dance Company. The 90-minute show (including a 20-minute intermission) aspires to "touch your heart with the beauty of Ireland and fuel your spirit with the energy of Irish Dance," through dance, music and photographic art.

O`Malley`s March

O`Malley`s March will perform a back-to-back post St. Patrick's Day set at the Creative Alliance on Saturday, March 19, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Event description: The region's favorite Celtic rockers – fronted by the artist formerly known as the Mayor - are back with a double serving of hearty Irish fare! Join Martin and the boys for a rollicking evening of traditional and original music, mad piping, championship fiddling, and general misrule. Sponsored by Ed Peres. Costs $25, $20 members.
