Baltimore Ravens gearing up for final preseason game against the Washington Commanders
The Baltimore Ravens will end their preseason this weekend against the Washington Commanders, giving several players a final shot at making the roster.
Rookie kicker Tyler Loop -- a sixth-round draft pick out of Arizona -- has already earned a starting spot on the team.
He has made 6-of-8 field goals in two preseason games, including two from 50-plus yards.
Against Dallas last Saturday, Loop made five field goals, including a 51 and a 53-yard field goal.
"The process was like, how can I find somebody who's got a strong leg, who's strong mentally, and can kick a straight ball? said Ravens senior special teams coach Randy Brown. "And, it all came down to – when it was all said and done – it came down to Tyler."
Loop was drafted by the Ravens to replace Justin Tucker, who was released in May. Tucker had been the most accurate kicker in NFL history.
Loop was also the first kicker that the Ravens had ever drafted.
The Ravens open up the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 7 against the Buffalo Bills.
Alexander remains held out of practice
Several Ravens weren't on the practice field on Monday, including offseason signing Jaire Alexander. Alexander hasn't practiced since August 9.
Head coach John Harbaugh said it's nothing serious and that Alexander is managing his knee, which he's had issues with for the past couple of years.
Linebacker Adisa Isaac dislocated his elbow covering a kickoff against Dallas.
Harbaugh said there was some ligament damage, so he will be out several weeks on the injured reserve.
