Baltimore Officials Declare Code Blue In Advance Of Storm

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore Health Commissioner Dr. Lena Wen has issued a Code Blue advisory for the city lasting until Sunday.

Meteorologists are predicting heavy snowfall in the Baltimore area beginning Friday, in addition to heavy winds. In a news release sent out Thursday afternoon Wen encouraged city residents to get their prescriptions filled and assemble an emergency kit before the first flakes fall.

Code Blue advisories trigger city agencies to begin providing weatherization services, meals to senior citizens and opening additional shelters with extended hours for the homeless.

Many school districts across the state are also cancelling classes Friday, including Baltimore City.
