Appeal Denied For Towson Doctor Accused Of Performing Unneeded Stent Surgeries

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)—A legal defeat for the Towson cardiologist accused of performing hundreds of unnecessary stent procedures.

A Baltimore County judge denies Mark Midei's appeal to have his medical license reinstated.

According to WJZ's media partner The Baltimore Sun, the judge is upholding an earlier decision by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

The board ruled that Midei falsified patient records to justify the placement of unnecessary heart stents.

The board says Midei's medical license cannot be reinstated for at least two years.

Midei is also facing hundreds of civil lawsuits from former patients.
