Wings Over North Georgia Airshow returns with spectacular aerial performances

The annual "Wings over North Georgia Airshow" is making a return this week at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport in Rome this Friday and Saturday.

This year's event will feature the United States Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds.

Alexander Prevandar, known by his squadron as "Knight," is the Thunderbird 1 Commander and Leader. Prevander has nearly two decades of experience flying an F-16 jet. He is one of eight Thunderbirds pilots.

"We are the Thunderbirds," Prevendar said. "The Air Force's ambassadors in blue. As the commander leader, I lead the team. It is a rush. I'm just trying to make sure that I am as smooth and stable as possible. Before I do anything with my aircraft I communicate, whether it's a left turn, right turn, moving the power back, up, easing forward, a little more pull. Calm, cool, collected so everyone can fly off of me very easily."

The squadron will execute precise aerial maneuvers displayed through formations and movements that require accurate spacing and timing.

Organizers said a number of the world's top civilian performers will also be displaying their talents in the air.

According to the schedule, the 2026 air show will feature a Friday afternoon and evening performance by the Thunderbirds followed by the twilight and night air show performances.

The evening will end with a drone show and fireworks finale.

The air show will continue Saturday with daytime aviation demonstrations with the Thunderbirds performing as the final act of the day.
