Emory University issues all-clear after "police emergency" near CDC headquarters

An emergency alert issued at Emory University has been lifted, university officials said.

In an update sent to students and staff via X, Emory confirmed the police emergency on the Atlanta campus is over and issued an "all clear."

"Emory Emergency: The emergency for Emory University Atlanta Campus has been lifted. ALL CLEAR. Please contact emergency personnel as needed," the alert said.

Earlier, Emory warned of an ongoing police emergency at Emory Point, near the headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention along Clifton Road.

CBS News Atlanta cameras previously captured Emory police officers carrying long guns in the mixed-use development.

During the emergency, officials asked the public to avoid the area. Details about what prompted the alert were limited.

The police activity occurred near the location where a DeKalb County officer was killed last year. Officer David Rose was responding to reports of an active shooter when authorities said 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White shot and killed him at a nearby CVS pharmacy. Investigators said White died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No further information has been released.
