4 dead, 40 wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least four people died and 40 others were wounded in weekend shootings across the city. Three of the victims are under the age of 18, including a 16-year-old shot and killed in Brighton Park.

In the first shooting of the weekend, a man, 59 was shot while outside in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood Friday evening.

The victim was on the sidewalk, in the 6800 block of South Indiana Avenue around 6:15 p.m. when an unknown vehicle pulled up, and an unknown offender inside the vehicle fired shots at the victim.

The victim was shot in the lower back and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.

A 24-year-old man was shot in an alley on the 3600 block of South Leavitt Friday evening.

Police said the victim was walking in the alley around 8:30 p.m. when a black sedan approached, and three unknown males exited the vehicle.

One of the offenders produced a handgun and fired shots at the victim striking him in the left leg and right stomach.

The victim was transported to Mt Sinai hospital in critical condition.

A teen was shot while attempting to break into a vehicle on the 1100 block of East 52nd Street Friday.

Four to five males were attempting to break into a parked vehicle around 7:58 p.m. when a woman, 34, owner of the vehicle, confronted the offenders at which time one of the offenders pointed a gun at the victim, according to police.

The woman is a CCL holder who discharged a handgun striking one of the offenders. The offender, a 13-year-old boy, was transported to Comer Children's Hospital by the Chicago Fire Department in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the neck area.

The other offenders fled the scene, and no weapon has been recovered.

A 34-year-old man was shot and wounded while outside on the 3700 block of West Division Friday.

Police said the victim was standing on the sidewalk around 8:38 p.m. when an unknown male offender fired shots.

The victim was transported by the CFD to an area hospital in serious condition with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and arms.

A man was shot while driving on the 700 block of South Albany Friday night, according to police.

The victim, 37, was driving his vehicle southbound on Albany around 10:48 p.m. when an unknown offender began firing shots at his vehicle.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right calf and was transported to Mt Sinai Hospital in good condition.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday: 

·        At 1:10 a.m. Saturday, in the 200 block of South Hoyne, a man, 33, was on the street when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of the neck and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The victim was very uncooperative when asked about the incident and refused to answer questions about the incident.

·        At 1:39 a.m. Saturday, in the 7200 block of South Union, a man, 24, was a passenger in a vehicle driving eastbound on 72nd street when the victim heard shots and felt pain. The victim suffered three gunshot wounds to the right arm and was transported by CFD to U of C in good condition.

·        At 1:10 a.m. Saturday, in the 2000 block of West 87th Street, two men and a woman victim were driving in a vehicle when a black sedan approached them at a stop light. Two unknown offenders then fired approximately forty rounds into the vehicle striking all three victims. A 31-year-old man was shot in the head and was transported to Christ hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead a short time later. A 25-year-old woman suffered multiple gunshot wounds throughout the body and was transported to Christ in critical condition. A 22year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso area and was transported to U of C in critical condition.

·        At 1:41 a.m. Saturday, in the 1800 block of West 43rd Street, a man, 30, was traveling westbound on 43rd in his vehicle when he observed an unknown male approach and began firing shots toward the victim. The victim suffered a graze wound to the back of the head and self-transported to St Anthony Hospital in good condition. 

·        At 1:40 a.m. Saturday, in the 1800 block of North Milwaukee, a man, 31, was standing on the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle approached and an unknown offender fired shots toward the victim. The victim was shot in the chest and was transported by CFD to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead a short time later. 

·        At 3:20 a.m. Saturday, address unknown, a 19-year-old man was dropped off at the hospital by an unknown person with a gunshot wound to the back and is in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.

·        At 3:45 a.m. Saturday, in the 1700 block of West Ohio, a man, 49, was riding his bicycle when an unknown offender standing on the street produced a handgun and fired multiple shots at the victim. The victim was shot twice in the right leg and was transported by CFD to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

·       At 3:27 p.m. Saturday, in the 8700 block of South Halsted, a 32-year-old man was inside of a vehicle when he was approached by an unknown vehicle, and an occupant from within fired shots. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper left shoulder and was transported to Christ Hospital in good condition. 

·       At 5:16 p.m. Saturday, in the 1600 block of West 77th Street, two men were traveling in a vehicle when they both sustained gunshot wounds by an unknown offender. The 23-year-old victim was shot in the back and was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. The 29-year-old victim was shot in the back and was also transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

·       At 5:23 p.m. Saturday, in the 1200 block of West 47th Street, a 47-year-old man was grazed in the left leg by an unknown offender. The victim refused medical attention.

·       At 9:08 p.m. Saturday, in the 11600 block of South Peoria, a 22-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported by the CFD to Roseland in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left arm. 

·       At 9:12 p.m. Saturday, in the 6300 block of South Cottage Grove, a 27-year-old man was standing in the vestibule of a restaurant when an unknown male fired shots. The victim was transported by the CFD to U of C in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg.

·       At 9:35 p.m. Saturday, in the 1100 block of West 18th Street, a 22-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk with a group of people when an occupant in a silver minivan fired shots. The victim was transported by the CFD to Stroger in serious condition with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and armpit.

·       At 10:43 p.m., in the 2000 block of North Kildare, a 34-year-old man was sitting on a front porch when an occupant in a black Chevy sedan fired shots. The victim was transported by the CFD to Stroger in fair condition with gunshot wounds to the face and left leg. 

·       At 9:53 p.m. Saturday, in the 8200 block of South State Street, a 34-yea-old man was driving a vehicle northbound on State when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported by the CFD to U of C in good condition with a graze wound to the head.  

·       At 1:44 a.m. Sunday, in the 600 block of East 51st Street, a 30-year-old woman was driving a vehicle when she heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported by the CFD to U of C in good condition with gunshot wounds to the right leg and right arm.

·       At 2:09 a.m. Sunday, in the 4700 block of South Kedzie, a boy and woman were stopped at a red light when shots were fired. The driver continued driving to the 4600 block of South Kedzie and struck a tree. A 16-year-old boy was transported by the CFD to Mt. Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead. A 19-year-old woman was transported by the CFD to St. Anthony's in good condition with a graze wound to the head.

·       At 2:30 a.m. Sunday, in the 3600 block of North Pulaski, a 49-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when an occupant in a gray SUV fired shots. The victim was transported by the CFD to Ill Masonic in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg. 

·       At 2:50 a.m. Sunday, in the 2300 block of West 18th Place, a 27-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when an occupant in a black sedan fired shots.  The victim was dropped off by a family member at Mt. Sinai in good condition with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and back. 

·       At 2:52 a.m. Sunday, in the 13100 block of South Ellis, two men were standing in a parking lot when shots were fired. A male adult was transported by the CFD to Christ in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. A 25-year-old man was transported by the CFD to U of C in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the right arm.

·       At 4:10 a.m. Sunday. In the 5900 block of West Grand Avenue, a 40-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when shots were fired.  The victim was transported by the CFD to Loyola in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right arm. 

·       At 3:15 a.m. Sunday, in the 2200 block of North Kostner, a 36-year-old man was standing in an alley when an unknown male fired shots. The victim was transported by CFD to Stroger in good condition with a gunshot wound to the groin. 

·       At 4:20 a.m., in the 7800 block of South Essex Avenue, a 63-year-old male victim was walking outside when he heard shots and then felt pain. He was transported to U of C with one gunshot wound to his upper back in critical condition. 

·       At 5:55 a.m., In the 6900 block of South Talman Avenue, a male victim, John Doe, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to the body near an alley. The victim was pronounced on scene. 

·        At 10:44 a.m. Sunday, In the 1100 block of W. 83rd Street, a 43-year-old man was inside a vehicle traveling westbound on 83rd Street when an unknown offender began to fire shots in his direction. The vehicle came to a stop where he was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was transported to Advocate Christ in critical condition.

·        At 1:13 p.m. Sunday, In the 7200 block of North Clark, a 19-year-old man was inside of a vehicle when he was approached by an unknown vehicle, and an occupant from within fired shots. The victim was struck to the head and was transported to St. Francis Hospital initially reported in critical condition.

·       At 12:54 p.m. Sunday, in the 9200 block of South Dobson, a woman, 54, was inside a residence when she sustained a graze wound to the shoulder area which came from the side window of the house. The victim was transported to U of C Hospital and initially reported in good condition.

·        At 2:34 p.m. Sunday, in the 6700 block of South Marshfield, two men, 20 and 20, were inside a vehicle when they were struck by gunfire. The 20-year-old victim was struck to the shoulder and the 30 year-old victim was struck to the stomach. Both were transported to U of C Hospital and initially reported in good condition.   

·        At 4:12 p.m. Sunday, in the 1200 block of East 72nd Street, a 45-year-old man was near the sidewalk when he was shot in the arm. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

·        At 6:55 p.m. Sunday, in the 7100 block of South Bennett, two men were near the sidewalk when they were shot. An 18-year-old man was shot in the leg and knee, and a 72-year-old man was shot in the knee. Both victims were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.

·        At 7:57 p.m. Sunday, in the 2200 block of South Sacramento, a 25-year-old woman was in front of a home, when she was shot in the knee. She went to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

·        At 8:35 p.m. Sunday, in the 3900 block of West Van Buren, a 16-year-old boy was standing on the sidewalk, when someone in an SUV started shooting. The boy was shot multiple times, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
