Trial underway in pier shooting that sparked immigration debate
A trial launched Oct. 23, 2017 for Jose Ines Garcia Zarate in the 2015 shooting death of 32-year-old Kate Steinle on a San Francisco pier. Her death touched of a debate on illegal immigration and so-called sanctuary cities because Zarate had been deported five times. He claims the shooting was accidental.
