First American since Bobby Fischer qualifies to challenge World Chess Champion

With his win in the Candidates Tournament, 25-year-old Fabiano Caruana is the first American since 1972 to qualify to challenge for the World Chess Championship. The Miami-born, American-Italian dual citizen will be the first American to compete for the title since Bobby Fischer last won it in in 1972.
