In a fresh CBS News poll, 73% of respondents said President Trump has not clearly explained the use of possible military action against Venezuela. For more on this, CBS News White House reporter Willie James Inman is in West Palm Beach, Florida. So, Willie, what are we learning about these ongoing tanker seizures, and how are lawmakers reacting/ Hey there, Lindsey, good to be with you on this Monday. Well, the White House is certainly ramping up that pressure campaign against the Venezuelan government and specifically against its leader, Nicolas Maduro. Now, we saw over the weekend, as you mentioned, that second tanker seized as that first tanker was expected to go to port in Texas. In terms of being able to seize the oil on that ship, the US government says that it will follow a legal process. But, certainly, there is concern on Capitol Hill amongst Republicans and Democrats as to what the plan is here. And as you pointed out perfectly there, that polling will show you that Americans simply don't understand the ultimate goal or the US intent in the region. I want to play some sound from Senator Tim Kaine, a Democrat who says that the US should be using sanctions instead of potential military action in Venezuela. Take a listen to what he said. We should not be waging war against Venezuela. We definitely should not be waging war without a vote of Congress. As you know, I've long maintained we shouldn't be at war without a vote of Congress. And what I'm searching for right now, Kristen, is what is President Trump's motivation. These boat strikes were initially justified on the ground that we're fighting against narco trafficking. But then the president pardons some of the biggest narco traffickers ever convicted in the United States courts. What's going on? Then Susie Wiles, the chief of staff, says it's about regime change. That's what this is about. Now, Susie Wiles, the chief of staff, gave an interview, a lengthy interview with Vanity Fairin which she essentially said that the president would need Congress to be able to wage war in Venezuela. The president has said just weeks ago that that isn't the case, that he would, of course, work to keep Congress informed. But we, of course, know that the president has this pressure campaign on the drug boats. He has these seizures of oil tankers, but still has not explicitly explained the reasons why the US is going about putting this pressure campaign on Venezuela.
