Trump presses Zelenskyy to accept peace plan

President Trump is pressuring Ukraine to sign off on a new peace proposal with Russia by Thanksgiving. The 28-point plan would have Ukraine surrender about 20% of its territory to the Russians -- an area roughly the size of Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Palmer has details.

This is a man over a barrel. "Ukraine has to choose," said President Zelenskyy, "between accepting the peace plan or facing the worst winter, yet." It's already brutal. On Tuesday, Russian drones and missiles slammed into the city of Ternopil, hundreds of miles from the front line. At least 31 people were killed. The peace plan proposed by Washington and Moscow would put a stop to this carnage, but it would also force Ukraine to give up a fifth of its territory. Some, but not all, under Russian occupation. Ukraine would also have to shrink its military by about a third and be barred from joining NATO. As the Russian military claimed to have taken another town in eastern Ukraine, President Putin said he had received the proposal, but serious negotiations hadn't started because, he said-- [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]

--the US administration hadn't yet been able to get Ukraine's consent. The White House is pressuring Zelenskyy. He'll have to like it. If he doesn't like it, then they should just keep fighting, I guess. Well, at some point, he's going to have to accept something, you know?

Ukrainians are still fighting hard, but their commander-in-chief, Zelenskyy, has been weakened by a corruption scandal and is now on the defensive. [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] He spoke with Vice President Vance earlier today, and also tweeted that he would work with the United States and Europe to, quote, "make the path to peace truly doable."
