I'd like you to address speculation that you're leaving Ankara, not in the new Air Force One, because of security concerns involving Iran. You know, life of a president is very dangerous. I'm number one on the kill list for Iran.

REPORTER:

Is there any credible threat by Iran against you? Well, I have a threat all the time. I'm number one on their list before you. But if I go, you go. So perhaps-- perhaps someday, you want to change professions.

New questions surrounding why President Trump did not take the Qatari-donated Air Force One when leaving Turkey yesterday. Ultimately, he switched on to that plane when he landed in the UK. But we're now learning that the call actually came from the Secret Service. Let's bring in CBS News Homeland Security Correspondent Nicole Sganga for more on all of this. Nicole, what have you learned? Yeah, people briefed on the situation, Liz, tell CBS News that it was the Secret Service that advised President Trump to leave Turkey yesterday on that older Air Force One, not the new Qatari-donated plane he had taken into Ankara. Now the concern, we're told, was not based on one specific or credible threat. But rather, it was a precautionary move amid this escalating war with Iran. And that older Air Force One has secure communications systems, really sophisticated defensive capabilities, including technology that's designed to misdirect incoming missiles. Sources familiar with the situation say it's unclear whether this new Boeing 747-8 from the Qataris has been equipped with all of those same systems. So the decision was made to ensure the president could both be secure and also manage the war with Iran from the air, if needed. The Secret Service declined to comment to us. But the White House did put out a statement defending the new plane's security, telling CBS News, quote, "the new Air Force One is a state-of-the-art aircraft that has been fitted with high-level security protocols that ensure the safety of the president and his staff. As the president has said recently, there are many enemies of America who have their sights on him. And we've used every tool at our disposal, including distraction and misdirection, to address those threats." Now President Trump later did switch back onto the new Qatari-donated plane after he landed in the UK. All of this comes after officials also tell CBS News that new plane was hurried into service. Just for context, Liz, it typically takes about six to 10 years to build a military plane like this. The new Qatari plane, called the Bridge Plane, was hurried into service after just one year.
