That was the mayday call last night from a single-engine Cessna after taking off on Long Island with a 17-year-old student flier and his instructor on board. We don't know why it happened, but we do know they lost an engine, their only engine, and then somehow landed on an icy stretch of the Hudson River, not unlike the Great Captain Sully Sullenberger, and they survived. It's just a tiny plane, not a giant commercial jetliner, but even a mini miracle on the Hudson is still a miracle. And in a week like this, I'll take it.
