Japan's Running Boy kid alert signs keeping children safe from motorists since the 1970s

Japan's ubiquitous "Running Boy" signs were created to address a rise in pedestrian accidents in the 1970s. In the birthplace of those signs, outside the city of Kyoto, they are still lovingly made by hand. Lucy Craft speaks with the manufacturer and with a Japanese traffic expert who says such signs actually do little to make streets safer.
