Hundreds honor officer killed in CDC shooting

Hundreds paid tribute to David Rose, a police officer killed earlier this month when a gunman with a grudge against COVID-19 vaccines opened fire at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control headquarters in Atlanta. Skyler Henry reports that new details are also emerging about the attack.

A 21-gun salute in honor of Officer David Rose. Rose's pregnant wife, his children, and hundreds of others mourned Rose at his funeral in Atlanta. Fellow officers spoke of his bravery and love of family. David's life was about sacrifice, loyalty, and an unshakable belief in service greater than self. To him, there was no such thing as off the clock when it came to being a husband and father. His family wasn't just a priority. They were his purpose.

Rose, a former Marine veteran, was gunned down two weeks ago while responding to a shooting outside CDC headquarters. The 33-year-old had only been on the force a few months. Authorities say the gunman fired more than 500 rounds in the shooting. Nearly 200 of those hit multiple buildings on the CDC campus. CDC Director Susan Monarez. This was such a brazen attack on their security and their ability to continue to commit to the American people their great work.

According to an email that was sent to staff members, a man believed by authorities to be the shooter tried to enter the campus just two days before the shooting but was turned away by security. David Rose was the only person struck by a bullet. To wear the uniform is to accept risk few can only understand. Officer Rose gave everything in the line of duty, and for that, we are forever grateful. Financial support for Officer Rose's family continues to pour in. More than half a million dollars has already been donated so far. Here at CDC headquarters, the agency is undergoing an overall security assessment.
