Chicagoans may be awaiting a federal judge's ruling on whether National Guard troops will be allowed to deploy to their city, but CBS News can confirm they're already here, US Northern Command says, to protect this ICE facility and other federal sites. It comes after President Trump, on Wednesday, said Chicago's mayor and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, both Democrats, should be in jail for failing to protect ICE officers. Speaking at a rally for federal workers, Pritzker offered this response. He likes to pretend to be a tough guy. Come and get me. Come and get me.

The escalating exchange of words comes after weeks of sweeping immigration raids in Chicago, which have led to, at times, charged protests against federal agents. In response, the Trump administration moved to send 300 Illinois-based soldiers and roughly 200 Texas Guard members into the city, prompting the state of Illinois to file a lawsuit to prevent the deployment, accusing the president of manufacturing a crisis. They're not trained to be local police officers. They are the military. And so it's dangerous. And we don't need that here.

Our Ash-har Quraishi spoke to the mayor of Broadview, the Chicago suburb that's home to a federal ICE facility that's been subject to demonstrations. What's your message for President Trump today? Leave us alone, don't be a bully, and don't try to intimidate us, because we're not afraid. President Trump has said he may consider sidestepping local officials and to activate troops by invoking the Insurrection Act. It is a 19th century law that allows the president to activate troops to combat acts of rebellion. Tony. Ian, thank you very much.
