Yeah, it's a reminder of the trauma so many Capitol Police officers experienced after the January 6 riots, many of them not surviving weeks later because of the trauma and the mental anguish. You're addressing this question with all these legal challenges on if something is legal. So I'm keeping that in mind as I ask you this basic question, because folks at home may be arguing about this amongst their friends, is barring the IRS from reviewing the president's past tax returns itself legal? It's certainly unprecedented, and it's a part of a sweetener that the Department of Justice put in this deal because, we should remind our audience, this lawsuit that was brought by President Trump, his two adult sons, and the Trump Organization against the IRS, for the leak of his tax returns by a government contractor, was not focused on any of the audit measures that the IRS had apparently been taking underway and past tax returns that were under investigation by the IRS. It was simply about the illegal leak of those tax returns. This is a separate component that was built in so that any tax returns that were filed before yesterday, meaning up and through this year, cannot and will not be investigated or looked into by the IRS or Treasury Department. However, a Justice Department spokeswoman told us yesterday that any future tax returns after this year are in play and could potentially be investigated.
