Weekend Closures Along LBJ Express Project

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Road construction crews working on the LBJ Express Project are making big progress this week. But it could mean more delays in your commute, if you travel through this part of Dallas.

Four massive steel beams will go up this weekend in the flyovers that connect westbound Interstate-635 to southbound Interstate-35E. The beams will require three nights of work, and crews will have to shut down half of Interstate-35E and Interstate-635 to finish the job.

Fortunately, almost all of the work will be done overnight. The beam placement is scheduled to begin Saturday night from 7:00 p.m. until Sunday at noon, then again on Sunday and Monday from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following days.

During this time, the southbound lanes of Interstate-35E will be completely closed. Drivers will have to exit to be diverted around this intersection during road work hours. The northbound lanes will remain open. Also, the westbound lanes of Interstate-635 will be closed and diverted as well.

Road crews have been putting similar steel beams in place since June. The final four beams are scheduled to go up next week. Then, all of the steel beam operation for this exchange will be finished.

Drivers should be able to travel on these newly constructed pathways by January.
