Tornado/Flooding Threat Continues

Another day in north Texas and another TORNADO WATCH. Today's goes into 9pm and includes the Metroplex:

We had a round of severe storms across the morning just north of the Metroplex; they produced some strong winds and 1" hail but the biggest damage was done by the heavy rain. FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS are in effect for Denton, Collin, Grayson and Fannin Counties until 4:30p. A FLOOD ADVISORY is in effect for Lamar County until 4:30p as well.

Our newsroom has been getting many reports of street flooding in northern Collin County and in the city of Bonham. Rainfall amounts since midnight are over 4" in spots.

We are watching for rapid storm development for the rest of the afternoon right over the metro area or just to the south:

Conditions are ripe for Super cell development. Tornadoes as well as large hail and damaging winds will threat the metro area. Heavy rains will produce near instant flooding in areas hard hit by heavy rain over the last two days.

We could get yet another round of strong/severe storms late tonight as storms are firing up along the dryline to our west.

We are fully staffed here in the CBS11 Weather Center and will keep you updated via Twitter, Facebook and during commercial breaks.
