The Word Is Cold

Sunday's high at DFW was a mere 51°, the coldest high so far this season.

Winds stayed above 20mph all day with gusts getting over 30mph at times making for wind chills dipping down into the upper 30s this afternoon.  Your skin might have noticed something else; the air is extremely dry with dewpoints only in the low teens, the driest air we've had in place since last winter.

As the winds finally give way under clear skies the lows tonight are going to sink down to the 20's, the coldest night of the season so far. Dallas-Fort Worth Airport recorded a low of 34° about three weeks ago, the coldest mark of the season up till now. Tonight that temperature will hit about 30° marking an official end of the growing season in the urban areas.

A WEEK OF MOSTLY COOL

Monday we won't suffer the wind like the last couple of afternoons, with ample sunshine highs that should reach into the upper 50s. Another cold front sweeps through Tuesday but the air is too dry to do much more than produce a few clouds.

It'll be breezy on Tuesday with highs in the mid-50's.  We'll get near 60° on Wednesday and break into the low 60s on Thursday with some clouds and light rain around. That is yet another front coming through here, highs on Friday are only in the low 50's.  Another front comes in on Sunday.

We'll have clouds on Saturday and enough south wind to get the humidity up. This will help produce a chance of rain for Sunday. Below you can see we are forecasting below normal highs for six of the next seven days.

For the next five days we are also expecting dry conditions. Below the HPC  keeps the Lone Star State almost completely rain-free:
