Staying Cool This Week...Rain by Weekend

FIRST FREEZE OF THE SEASON KICKS OFF A COOL WEEK

Temperatures cooled down to at or below freezing over pretty much all of North Texas Monday morning.  At DFW Airport, it was the first freeze of the season…and the coldest morning since early March.  The average first freeze is November 22, so we were just a touch later than average with freezing temperatures this fall.  And it certainly won't be the last time this season we see freezing weather.

Expect another cool night tonight with low temperatures falling into the 30s again.  It will most likely stay just above 32° in the Metroplex, but outlying areas will see a light freeze Tuesday morning.  Another surge of cooler air arrives tomorrow with our wind picking up a bit out of the northwest 10-20 mph.  We'll also see increasing high clouds on Tuesday…keeping things on the cool side again.  As skies clear out Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, there will be another widespread freeze over North Texas, including the Metroplex.

Tonight…Clear & cold.  Low near 36° in the Metroplex.  28-33° in rural areas.  Wind slowly picks up NW 10 mph.

Tuesday…Partly cloudy & breezy.  High near 57°  Northwest wind 10-20 mph.

Wednesday…Sunny & cool.  Low near 31°  High near 56°

MORE CHILLY AIR & A CHANCE OF RAIN

Our next storm system is developing in the Pacific Northwest late this afternoon.  The low pressure will strengthen and dive into the southwestern United States forming cut-off low.  Cut-off lows are just that..cut off from the main steering winds.  This means they are usually slow-moving and can give our computer model guidance fits as to what speed they finally move east.  It appears that another shot of cold air will arrive Friday ahead of the upper level system arrival.  Temperatures will struggle to get out of the 40s on Friday with plenty of clouds.  Look for rain to increase in coverage Friday night into Saturday.  It appears to be a chilly rain for most of North Texas…with temperatures mainly in the 40s.  A warm front should move through our area Saturday afternoon, with temperatures rising to near 60° late in the day Saturday, as the rain continues.  However, another shot of cold air will get here Saturday night into Sunday morning.  Once again Sunday, temperatures will mainly be in the 40s.  Rain should end by midday Sunday.  But again if the low pressure systems speeds up or slows down, the timing on the rain will be different this weekend.  Stay tuned.
