MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - Surveillance in unmarked cars helped Mesquite detectives nab a pair of alleged armed robbers.
Around 11:00 p.m. Saturday police got a call about an aggravated robbery in the 2300 block of Driftwood Drive. The victim said he'd been robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of his apartment complex.
The victim had just arrived home from the PLS check cashing store and the grocery store when a large SUV pulled up behind his car blocking him in.
A man in a mask got out of the SUV and pointed a pistol at the victim and demanded money. The victim gave the suspect all of his cash and the suspect took off.
Shortly after the investigation had begun, investigators discovered there had been similar offenses in neighboring cities. In the other cases the victim had visited a check cashing store and left with money in hand. The victims were followed and then robbed.
In a proactive approach to catching the suspects Mesquite officers were assigned surveillance duty in unmarked cars to watch the PLS check cashing store at Gus Thomasson and Town East.
On September 4th officers observed a customer exit the store and drive out of the parking lot with a dark blue Nissan following them. The Nissan continued following the intended victim as Officers followed both vehicles. A marked police unit initiated a traffic stop on the Nissan which pulled over.
When the car came to a stop a passenger in the Nissan got out and ran. The driver Shedrick Jackson, 26 of Balch Springs, was arrested for outstanding traffic warrants. It was later discovered the passenger who ran off was Larry Davis, 34 of Mesquite.
After an investigation, Jackson was charged with aggravated robbery from August 22nd offense and an aggravated robbery warrant was obtained for Davis.
Davis was located at his home early Saturday morning and arrested.
Mug shots of the suspects have not yet been released due to the ongoing investigation.
