DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Actor Alec Baldwin has a challenge for you, Dallas, and he's willing to put up $25,000 –– if you are.

The 30 Rock star announced it on stage last Friday during his appearance at the Winspear Opera House. AT&T Performing Arts Center spokesman Chris Heinbaugh said Baldwin told the crowd he was impressed by the city's support for the arts: The Center is a nonprofit organization.

"In 35 years of working in the performing arts I have never heard of something like this," said president and CEO of the Center Mark Weinstein in a prepared statement. "We all respect artists for their work to be sure, but no one has ever, in my experience, stepped up, unsolicited, in this way."

Here's how it works: Donate to the Center's young Annual Fund Campaign and Baldwin will match what you give dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

Weinstein said this will help the Center raise $1 million for the fund for the first time ever.

Up for the challenge? Visit this website or the Center's Membership Service team at 214.978.2888.

Donations can also be mailed: That address is AT&T Performing Arts Center, ATTN: Alec Baldwin Challenge, 2100 Ross Avenue, Suite 650, Dallas 75201. All checks should be made payable to the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

"Mr. Baldwin's generosity is overwhelming and his timing couldn't be better," said Weinstein in that statement. "His contribution, combined with the tremendous support we've been receiving from our donors and the community, helps us provide a wide range of diverse programming for all of Dallas and North Texas."
