18-Wheeler Crash & Fuel Spill Causes Evacuations In Glen Rose

GLEN ROSE (CBSDFW.COM) - Right now some residents in Glen Rose have been forced from their homes after a big rig crash and fuel spill.
The semi tanker-truck was carrying 8,000 gallons of fuel -- 4,000 diesel and 4,000 gasoline -- when it jackknifed and overturned on State Highway 144, just south of Glen Rose. Almost all of the fluid in the load spilled out onto the roadway when the crash happened just after 8 a.m.
Hazardous materials crews say they have been able to contain the fuel to a small space, but as a precaution evacuated some 60 homes in the immediate area.
Now the goal is to make sure the area is safe and get evacuated families back into their homes. Somerville County Commissioner John Curtis said, "We've got the area secured. We're working as rapidly and safely as we can to get this thing cleaned up and get people back into a normal routine."
By 1:30 p.m. a wrecker had arrived and was able to upright the tractor trailer. As it stands, officials are hoping the truck will be moved out and the spill cleaned up by early evening.
The driver of the semi was taken to the Glen Rose Medical Center with minor bumps and bruises. No one else was injured in the crash.
Glen Rose is about 55 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
