A Ukrainian man suspected of being involved in causing undersea explosions that damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines was arrested in Poland.
A Ukrainian man arrested in Italy is believed to have helped coordinate an attack on the Nord Stream gas pipelines connecting Russia and Europe.
A European arrest warrant was requested for a diving instructor whose last known address was in Poland, German media reported.
The Nord Stream pipelines are largely owned by Russia's Gazprom, which hasn't said yet whether it will join the effort to recover an object found near the damaged conduit.
Swedish prosecutor said the "very complex and comprehensive" investigation would determine whether anyone could be charged "with suspicion of crime."
Danish officials say there has been "extensive damage" to the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, and that the cause of the damage was "powerful explosions."
A judge said there was reason to believe the suspect, who had 3 passports, would "try to escape judicial proceedings unless he is placed in provisional custody."
Seismologists say explosions rattled the Baltic Sea before unusual leaks were discovered Tuesday on the two underwater pipelines running from Russia to Germany.
Both European and Russian officials say sabotage may have caused leaks in the undersea pipes, both of which had stopped but were still full.
