As if the San Francisco 49ers haven't had enough injuries issues in 2015, the problem keeps getting worse as the final four games of the season draw near. Heading into their matchup in Cleveland on Sunday, the 49ers may be without one of their defensive stalwarts while key offensive players are also nursing serious injuries. It seems as if 2016 can't come soon enough for the San Francisco organization.
Dealing with a slew of injuries to tight ends, the San Francisco 49ers might have to look toward their defense for solutions in Sunday's game at Cleveland.
Since installing QB Blaine Gabbert as the starter last month, the San Francisco 49ers have posted a 2-2 record after a 2-6 start to the season. The defense is holding its own, even on the road now, and Gabbert certainly has played well enough to win games.
For perhaps the first time this season, the San Francisco 49ers get to play a team with more problems than they have. The Cleveland Browns are 2-10 and going nowhere fast ... again.
Now that Blaine Gabbert is under center as the Niners' No. 1, all of those extra hours of preparation seem to be paying off -- enough so that he should be in the conversation for the franchise's future plans.
The San Francisco 49ers won their first road game of the year Sunday in Chicago, beating the Bears in overtime on a long pass play from Blaine Gabbert to Torrey Smith.
Blaine Gabbert's 71-yard touchdown pass to Torrey Smith after 2:10 of sudden death overtime gave the San Francisco 49ers a most improbable 26-20 victory over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday.
The Chicago Bears have a couple of dynamic running backs ready to take advantage of the San Francisco 49ers defensive injury woes, which include three linebackers that were limited in workouts on Thursday. Otherwise, the 49ers have no new major injury concerns as they head to the Midwest to face off against the Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field. Instead, the team can focus on winning its first road game of the 2015 regular season.
The average fan generally believes that the more valuable a franchise becomes, the more successful it has to be on the playing field. That simply is not the case.
The San Francisco 49ers have turned into a road mess this year, after posting a 24-11 mark away from their home stadiums from 2011-14 under former coach Jim Harbaugh—including playoff contests.
In a year of sweeping changes for the San Francisco 49ers, few could have envisioned journeyman running back Shaun Draughn leading the way in the ground game down the stretch this season.
Coming off a tough home loss against the Arizona Cardinals, the San Francisco 49ers now must bundle up for a road trip to wintery Chicago to face the Bears next Sunday.
Jim Tomsula is now talking about having his players sprint off the bus and into Solider Field on Sunday.
Once again, the San Francisco 49ers played much better at home on the Levi's Stadium turf than they do on the road, but it wasn't enough to beat the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals.
The 3-7 San Francisco 49ers host the 8-2 Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at Levi's Stadium, and they do so with no new injury concerns. Some of the same players are still nicked up, of course, and running back Carlos Hyde remains questionable for the Week 12 matchup.
Even though it's been a season of turmoil for the San Francisco 49ers, there are still many things the organization has to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. As the teams and fans enjoy the holiday on Thursday, they should keep in mind their good fortune in relation to other NFL teams.
Brett Favre, Terrell Owens and Alan Faneca are semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility.
The San Francisco 49ers are 3-7 this year and going nowhere fast. This weekend, they host the 8-2 Arizona Cardinals, who may be the best team in the NFC this year (with all due respect to the 10-0 Carolina Panthers).
Head coach Jim Tomsula studied the film from the 49ers' lopsided loss to the rival Seattle Seahawks and saw a tentative team, one trying not to make mistakes.
Once they woke up, the San Francisco 49ers played a decent game on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks on the road. Unfortunately, the 49ers were behind 20-0 before they started to compete.
The team announced on Saturday that Kaepernick has been placed on injured reserve, which means he'll miss the rest of the season.
The San Francisco 49ers got 168 yards from running back Carlos Hyde in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, but in the eight games since then, the 49ers have gotten just 302 yards from the oft-injured Hyde. It now looks like San Francisco won't have their No. 1 running back for this Sunday's road contest against the Seattle Seahawks, due to a continuing and lingering foot injury. That will put the pressure on quarterback Blaine Gabbert to take on the Legion of Boom without much support.
The San Francisco 49ers may be just 3-6 this year, which is disappointing after the last four seasons of (mostly) success. Before this season began, the team made a strong decision to cut ties with troubled linebacker Aldon Smith—who had already served a nine-game suspension last year for off-the-field issues and was once again arrested in August for another crime. With the news Tuesday that the NFL has suspended Smith for another year, it's clear the 49ers made the right choice.
Having not won in Seattle's CenturyLink Field since 2011, the San Francisco 49ers are hoping a change at quarterback can spark their struggling offense against the Seahawks.
San Francisco's starting quarterback might be a week-by-week decision for coach Jim Tomsula, yet he is noncommittal on what might happen next week after Sunday's game at Seattle.
