Young Filmmakers Screen Human Rights Documentaries In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Teen filmmakers from all over the world will be sharing their personal stories dealing with human rights issues at special screenings in San Francisco.
"Youth Producing Change" is a program of short films made by young filmmakers from around the globe and is showcased with the Human Rights Watch Film Festival.
The festival's program manager Jennifer Nedbalsky said this partnership with Human Rights Watch and Adobe Youth Voices is a philanthropic effort of Adobe that provides video training to teens in 45 countries at 600 different sites, including schools in San Francisco, and helps them document their personal life stories.
Films coming from this youthful perspective, Nedbalsky said, are very honest and idealistic.
The films are about life in the slums of Kenya, escaping violence in Colombia, living with toxic waste on a US army base, and coming out as a lesbian, to name a few.
Nedbalsky said this empowers teens to voice their issues, gives them confidence, and helps them become leaders in their community.
