Young Entrepreneur's Speakers Play Sweet Music

SUNNYVALE (KCBS) _ Entrepreneur Adam Wegener is turning heads in Silicon Valley with his unique portable speakers.

The Trash Amps are mini-speakers hidden inside everyday objects like a Starbucks cup, soda can or Chinese takeout container.

"It allows people to customize their speakers with different trash items and also have music on the go," said Wegener.

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

Wegener, who is CEO of the company, said the speakers can also be plugged into an electric guitar. He makes all the amps by hand in Sunnyvale using almost entirely recycled materials.

"Also, our packaging is strawberry containers that you'd normally find at the supermarket," he said.

Sales of the Trash Amps are booming. Laura Juarez got one so she can listen to music out of her favorite soda can.

"People don't really know where it's coming from, so you get some looks," she said. "But it's really cool because you can bring it anywhere."

The speakers are being sold online and at a kiosk at Valley Fair Mall in San Jose.
