SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) - A new feature at San Francisco International Airport hopes to ease traverers' tensions - with a first-of-its-kind yoga room.
A pre-flight facial or a backrub at the airport spa cots money, but when the facility at Terminal Two officially opens Thursday, the new yoga room will be free.
SFO Director John Martin, an 18 year yoga practitioner himself, said that this being the first airport yoga room, new signs had to be commissioned. You can just look for the yoga Mudra pose.
"This sign of the yoga Mudra pose was designed by airport staff," said Martin. "Rather than having a ribbon cutting today, we're going to have a sun salutation."
KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:If you ask passengers, their fellow travelers could use a few sun salutations.
"I hate traveling. I like it when I'm on the plane, but before and after is the worst," said traveler Mike Nicholls.
Martin Thursday lead those assembled through a series of yoga poses.
Mats are provided for travelers in the 150 square foot room.
"Just to take ten minutes to calmly breathe, look at yourself and stretch out," said traveler Ben Binstock, who spent a few minutes getting centered before his flight to New York. .
Even a few Transportation Security Administration agents said they wouldn't mind getting in a stretch.
