Wheelchair-Bound Man Dead In Apparent Salinas Gang Shooting

SALINAS (BCN) - A man in a wheelchair was killed in an apparent gang-related shooting in Salinas on Wednesday night, police said.

Police responded shortly before 9:15 p.m. Wednesday to a report of shots fired in the area of Orchard and Del Monte avenues.

Officers arrived to find a man in a wheelchair next to the curb, dead from gunshot wounds to the head and upper torso. The victim's name is being withheld until his family is notified, according to police.

Witnesses said a vehicle drove past the victim and at least one person inside the car began shooting. No arrests have been made in the case, and no information was immediately available about the suspect or car, police said.

The shooting is being investigated as gang-related.
