Teen Killed In Drive-By Shooting In Morgan Hill
MORGAN HILL (KCBS) – A 14-year-old girl was killed in what Morgan Hill police believe may have been a gang-related shooting on Saturday night.
Investigators said a group of teens was standing outside an apartment complex at Del Monte and Cosmo Avenues around 9:30 p.m. when gunfire erupted.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found that four teenagers had been wounded. A 14-year-old Morgan Hill girl was declared dead at the scene. Two other teens suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and another was shot in the stomach.
Morgan Hill Police Captain Jerry Neumayer said that officers spotted a suspect vehicle fleeing the scene and were able to track it down at a nearby apartment complex.
"They surrounded the apartment complex and then called out the five suspects," said Neumayer. "There were two firearms that were recovered and all five suspects were arrested. They will be booked into county jail and the one juvenile will be booked into juvenile hall."
18-year-old Esmeling Bahena, 19-year-old Ricardo Diaz, 20-year-old Fernando Mateo, 23-year-old Primitivo Hernandez and a 17-year-old Morgan Hill boy were all arrested.
Neumayer said they believe the shooting may have been some type of retaliatory action and they are investigating it as gang-related. He said the victims are not believed to be gang members.
Police are looking for any other witnesses to help in their investigation.
This is Morgan Hill's first homicide since a gang-related shooting in October of 2009.
