Teen Girl Leads Albany Police To Man Accused Of Luring Girls

ALBANY (CBS SF) - A teenage girl helped Albany police locate a Richmond man suspected of attempting to lure girls into his truck, police officials said.

Gilberto Moreno, 36, was arrested Saturday evening after he allegedly tried to lure a 16-year-old into his truck earlier that day, police said.

The girl had allegedly been approached by Moreno the year before and recognized him and his truck immediately, police said.

The girl was approached at around 5:20 p.m. and she quickly reported the incident to police, which led to Moreno's arrest at around 7:30 p.m., police said.

"I'm absolutely impressed by this young girl, who recognized Moreno, yet remained calm enough to provide us with information that led us directly to him," police Chief Mike McQuiston said in a statement.

"She is to be commended for her courageous calm during what was understandably a very frightening experience," he said.

Moreno is suspected of attempting to lure girls in a series of similar incidents in Albany.

He allegedly approached three other girls, ages 13 and 14, by asking for help with directions and in some instances offering money to the victims, police said.

In one instance, he allegedly exposed his genitalia to the victim when she approached the car.

Moreno was booked into the custody of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
