Squaw Valley Opens Just In Time For Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend

OLYMPIC VALLEY (CBS SF ) -- Squaw Valley is officially open for the 2014-15 winter season.

The Lake Tahoe resort Wednesday opened just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with five lifts for skiing and riding, along with snowtubing, scenic Aerial Tram rides, ice skating, yoga, shopping, and dining.

"We are so excited to be open for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, allowing skiers and riders to hit the slopes with family and friends," said Cara Whitley, chief marketing officer for Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.

Squaw Valley recently received 5 inches of snow, and snowmaking efforts have been underway since late October. Temperatures have been cold enough at night to allow the resort to make snow on the upper and lower mountain.

Alpine Meadows resort is slated to open Friday, December 12.
