Detectives find suspect in Cloverdale homicide in Santa Rosa
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office on Sunday said they found a suspect who was wanted in connection with a homicide in Cloverdale.
He was identified by the sheriff's office as 56-year-old Lawrence Cassidy of Cloverdale.
The sheriff's office said he is a suspect in a deadly shooting that happened on the 300 block of Cloverdale Heights Way, around 4:47 p.m. on Saturday. Investigators said they were searching for him and that he was considered armed and dangerous.
On Sunday, the sheriff's office said they found him at a home in Santa Rosa off Brush Creek Road.
During what became a three-hour standoff, deputies said multiple rounds were fired from within the home, with one round possibly striking an armored vehicle with SWAT members inside it.
A chemical agent was deployed while the suspect was firing, but deputies said Cassidy continued to not communicate with them or exit the home.
Eventually, deputies used a drone and bomb-disposal robot to see inside the home, discovering a man dead inside.
Deputies said the Marin County coroner will release the identification of the man found dead.
A shelter-in-place order was in effect for the surrounding neighborhood.
The Petaluma Police Department is handling the investigation.
