San Francisco Supervisors Eye Possible Ban On Aerial Advertising
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- Planes with advertising banners may become a thing of the past in the skies above San Francisco.
City supervisors were considering an ordinance that would ban aerial advertising above the city. A Board of Supervisors committee was scheduled to take up the proposal on Monday afternoon.
It comes after complaints about noise from planes carrying advertising banners by residents, particularly those around AT&T Park where the Giants play. Some equate the noise to a migraine headache.
But legal experts say a ban might violate free speech rights. The Federal Aviation Administration may also object.
Honolulu has an aerial advertising ban, but other cities that have pursued the restriction have run into trouble.
