South San Francisco Police said a deadly police shootout began Monday when officers responded to reports of a disturbance involving a man armed with a gun.

Police on Tuesday said they got a call just before 6 p.m. about a man brandishing a gun at a neighbor on the 300 block of Arroyo Drive.

When officers arrived, they saw the man shooting into a home that had someone inside of it, police said.

South SF police said the man moved to a nearby driveway and hid behind a parked car. According to police, the man had a handgun, shotgun and rifle, and he shot at officers while hiding behind cars parked in the driveway and behind landscaping.

Officers shot back, and he was hit at least once. Police said they waited a bit before going to him to make sure he was no longer a threat.

When they approached him, he was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene despite first aid, police said.

A person inside the home the suspect at was found to be injured, police said. They were taken to a local hospital.

No officers were injured, and the two officers who fired their guns were put on administrative leave per protocol.

South SF Police said additional information will be released at a later time along with audio and video recordings.
