SAN FRANCISCO — A woman was stabbed aboard a San Francisco Muni light rail train Tuesday, and a juvenile suspect was arrested, authorities said.

San Francisco police said officers responded just after 5:30 p.m. to a report of a woman stabbed near the Carroll station at Carroll Avenue and 3rd Street, on the T line, in the southeastern part of the city.

The woman, who was stabbed multiple times, suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.

While at the scene, witnesses told officers that two people were running westbound on Carroll Avenue. Officers canvassed the area and detained a male and female suspect after a brief foot chase, police said.

Police said officers developed probable cause and arrested the male juvenile suspect. He was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center and booked on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment.

The female subject was released at the scene.

Anyone who may have information relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the San Francisco Police Department.
