San Francisco Firefighters Take Toy Donations To The Streets
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- San Francisco's Engine One met its goal this Saturday Christmas morning. Firefighters rode around the streets of the city to hand out toys to children, including those in the under-served Tenderloin neighborhood.
The firefighters collected 15,000 toys for needy children right up until the final hours of Christmas Eve.
KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:
Firefighter Keith Onishi and his crew rolled around some of the toughest poorest blocks in the city finding kids on the streets with their families.
One lucky kid, Ty, swallowed his banana at Eddy and Van Ness and whispered thank you for the toy fire engine.
A few blocks away they handed out soccer and basketballs, maybe a football too.
Station one at Howard and 3rd streets is the busiest in the city so there were priorities of safety, but it's always a priority of the SFFD this time of year to put a smile on the faces of the little kids.
