S.J. Firefighters Back to the Bargaining Table
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)_ The city of San Jose and its firefighters' union go back to the bargaining table on Wednesday, in an effort to find a way to bring back at least some of the 49 fire fighters that were laid off over the weekend.
The union's latest proposal includes a five and one quarter percent net pay cut.
The city wants firefighters to take a ten percent pay cut.
The proposal also drops the demand for a guarantee that no firefighters will be laid off and includes a new retirement package as well.
The city hasn't rejected the latest offer outright, but it hasn't accepted it either.
