1 Dead, Another Seriously Injured In Richmond Shooting

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- One man is dead and another is in critical condition following a deadly shooting in Richmond on Saturday night, police said.

Officers responded to 24th Street and Exchange Place just before 10 p.m. and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, Richmond police Lt. Bisa French said.

A 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 29-year-old man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, French said.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

The shooting is being investigated for its connection to gang violence, but she said it did not appear to be connected to recent homicides.

On Thursday, the creation of a new gang task force aimed at ending a rise in gun violence was announced as a joint effort between the Richmond Police Department, the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office and the Richmond City Council.

Saturday night's shooting marks Richmond's ninth homicide this month, according to police. There has also been one homicide and several shootings in unincorporated North Richmond.

Richmond police have not arrested any suspects in this case and have not released any further details.
