Registered sex offender arrested in San Rafael after allegedly stalking woman
San Rafael officers arrested a registered sex offender after he allegedly stalked and made lewd comments to a woman earlier this week, according to police.
Just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, San Rafael officers were alerted to a 911 text from someone who reported that she was being followed and intimidated by a man on Professional Center Parkway near Redwood Highway. An officer who arrived reportedly saw the suspect, later identified as Darrien James Humphries, and the victim had momentarily walked onto the property of a private school, according to police.
Humphries reportedly stood in the victim's path, appearing to prevent her from passing by. The officer detained the suspect, while the victim was moved to safety.
Investigators learned that Humphries approached the woman and made lewd and sexual comments. The victim tried to get away from him, but he persisted and followed her. Humphries also tried to keep her from getting away.
"Fortunately, the victim was not physically assaulted. The victim had never met Humphries before and did not know him," according to police.
Police also learned Humphries, a 25-year-old Vacaville resident, was also a sex registrant, with the most recent registration out of Suisun City and on active "Post Release Community Supervision" out of Santa Clara County.
He was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of felony false imprisonment, felony stalking, and a sex registrant being on school grounds.
