SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Protestors who say the tech boom has been driving San Franciscans from their homes took to the streets of the Mission District Wednesday to demonstrate against an ongoing series of evictions.
Chants of "Pineapple boy out, tenant's rights in!" filled the area of 24th and Mission Streets. Demonstrators were referring to Pineapple Boy, LLC, which is a property management company led by Michael Harris.
Protesters Take To San Francisco's Mission Streets, Demonstrate Against Ellis Act Evictions
Beating drums made the background sound for the protesters who said Harris was evicting tenants unfairly by using the Ellis Act to kick out long-time renters.
Protests have echoed the same anti-displacement sentiments and have been held in front of Twitter's Downtown San Francisco headquarters, and in front of Google's inter-city shuttle buses (blocking them from moving) that pick up and drop off employees at various Muni stops throughout San Francisco.
