4 arrested in Oakland robbery spree targeting gas stations, convenience stores
A suspected burglary and robbery crew was in custody after police linked them to six heists at gas stations or convenience stores across Oakland over a span of two hours Thursday morning.
Police said the first burglary was at 4:45 a.m. in 3500 block of Grand Avenue, where a vehicle was used to ram the front doors of a business before the suspects allegedly went inside to steal items.
From there, the four suspects in two cars allegedly hit two other locations, in the 3300 block of Park Boulevard, and then the 700 block of Market Street in West Oakland.
The next target was an Oakland hills gas station in the 4100 block of Redwood Road, where "fearing for her life, the clerk locked herself in an adjoining room" while the suspects forced entry and stole items, said Assistant Chief James Beere.
Two other businesses, in the 600 block of High Street and the 2400 block of MacArthur Boulevard were also targeted.
A combination of technology, witness statements and community support helped police track down the suspects' vehicles to the 3400 block of Wood Street in West Oakland, Beere said during a press conference Thursday morning.
The suspects, three men and 1 woman, were taken into custody, and are being investigated for crimes that include robbery, burglary and home invasion, Beere said.
Officers also recovered property allegedly stole during the crime spree.
Police are still investigating and ask anyone with information to contact the OPD Burglary Section at (510) 238-3951. Additionally, any videos or photos that could assist with the investigation can be sent to cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
