Oakland Bicyclist Killed In Hit-And-Run Accident

OAKLAND (KCBS) - A bicyclist was struck and killed in East Oakland by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday night, authorities said.

Witnesses reported seeing a silver, late-model sedan with a broken windshield speeding away from the scene of the collision on International Boulevard near 81st Avenue at 9:35 p.m., said Oakland Fire Department officials.

The bicyclist was dragged about 100 feet by the vehicle, which Officer Jim Gordon with Oakland Police Department said did not even attempt to stop.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained during the crash, according to the Alameda County Coroner's Office.

Officer Gordon said the coroner hoped to identify the victim by his fingerprints, since the man was not carrying identification.

Investigators plan to canvass the area Thursday afternoon to see if the vehicle may have been recorded by surveillance cameras in nearby stores, Gordon said.
