New DMV Handbook Will Include Reminder for Pet Owners
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCBS) - It's illegal to leave your dog in a hot car. That reminder is being included in next year's DMV handbook.
It's already against the law to leave a dog in a hot car in California. However, experts warn that fines and possible jail time aren't the answer. "You can punish people and unfortunately it's too late for the victim of somebody who was not aware of the dangers to the dogs," reasoned Dr. Elliot Katz, founder and chair of In Defense of Animals. He applauds a recent decision by the DMV to update its handbook. "A great many dogs' lives will be saved," he believes.
